Ourobouros Podcast
UK based indie/unsigned music. Good Music Is Infinite.

Good Music Is Infinite

An Ourobouros is an ancient Greek symbol of a snake biting its own tail that symbolises infinity. The idea is that there is infinite good music out there that people should hear and I intend to play some of that music.

Just an advanced warning that I didn't have time to record a show this week before my jet-setting to America so there won't be a show this weekend.

My second local special is in the books and it's a special extra long episode as well. I just happened to have a couple of extra local tracks to bring you. All the music in this episode comes from Bath, Bristol, Somerset & Wiltshire.

So this week we have an exclusive pre-release track, a solo project from an old friend, some 'indie hardcore' and as ever a weird track of the week that is part poetry, part trip hop, but all good.

Only one video this week, but it's a good one.

JUB - Where To Begin

A bit of advanced warning that next week I will be in America on the day I usually put out the podcast. The plan at the moment is to record the episode during the week and then put it online with a release delay on it. That's the plan anyway. The way things have been going I might not be able to do it and there might not be an episode next week. Let's hope I manage to do it.

So anyway, hopefully see you next week, if not it'll be in a fortnight.

As promised here is a double length 'comeback special' to celebrate the return of The Ourobouros Podcast. I know my loyal listeners have been bereft during my three week break, but here I am and ready to keep providing you with quality podsafe music. (Did anyone actually notice I was gone?)

In this 16 track episode we have the three bands who played at my last live gig, some industrial electronica from the Dark Compass podcast, some love shown to the excellent American Indie Music Podcast, a really fun Swedish dance-rock track and of course some weird electronica to close out the show.

Hopefully there won't be any more extended breaks from doing the show, not even when I go to America at the start of December. Obviously I can't promise anything, but at the very least I'll probably get a bit more warning if I ever need another break from broadcast.

And here are the videos:

SixNationState - So Long

Sick Of Sarah - Bittersweet

The Skooners - Bad Bad Man

Those Dancing Days - Those Dancing Days

Natalie Walker - Crush [Live Performance, audio not great]

Anemo - Pray [This video is for the original mix of the song]

Join me next week, when I will have another extended show, this time highlighting the music of my local area.

It's been far too long since I've talked to you all, but sometimes life gets in the way of what you really want to do.

Rest assured I am still here, and as determined as ever to provide you with quality independent music. I'm still doing gigs as well and the next one is tonight, Wednesday 14th November, at The Porter Butt. I know this is very short notice, but yet again I had a band pull out on me and had a lot of trouble finding a replacement. As ever there will be free mix CDs handed out to attendees.

As far as the podcast goes I am planning to release a double length 'comeback special' at the end of the week. Lets hope I can actually get it out...

A busy week at Ourobouros Towers. Had the gig on Wednesday that was a good night out, though sadly poorly attended. I've still got the 5 Unsigned show to turn into a podcast and of course I had to put out the 'regular' podcast as well. I think it's a good show if I do say so myself.

I've also discovered some new software after I read an article in Podcast User Magazine so I started using it for this episode. Gabor over at Electrical Language has also started using it for his last episode as well. It's called REAPER, is very easy to use and I think has increased the audio quality of the show. Let me know what you think.

This weeks show includes some house music, which is a first for me, some violin rock, a welcome return for a band I've played before, some pop-punk and some extraordinary music created by two acoustic guitars.

Don't forget that there will be two 'live' podcasts released shortly. One recorded at my own gig and one recorded at 5 Unsigned.

Pretty good selection of videos this week:

Martijn Ten Velden - I Wish U Would

Echo Helstrom - Hungry Ghost

Last Letter Read - Leabridge

Grand Atlantic - Smoke And Mirrors

The Grams - On A Wednesday [This is an extended video with footage from a live show. 'On A Wednesday' is the first track]

Momentary Prophets - Go! [Live Performance]

I have something a little bit different lined up for my next episode so keep listening.

A severely late episode this week. I hate to keep my adoring public waiting...

The reason for this is that one of the bands I had booked to play at my gig tomorrow had to pull out and I had to find a replacement before I could do the last minute promotion on my podcast. I finally found a replacement and could put out the podcast the day before the show.

So all you Bath fans, Wednesday 10th October at The Porter Butt you will be able to see Cherry Stain, Group 4 and We*Take*Flight. And of course there will be a live podcast featuring tracks recorded on the night released some time next week.

Speaking of live podcasts there will also be a 5 Unsigned podcast released soon recorded this past Sunday at the monthly acoustic night. Sadly it will be the last show for a while as Rich who runs it is taking a break. Lets hope he comes back sometime next year.

Not much on the video front this month but here they are:

The Dykeenies - Pick You Up [Live Performance]

Peter, Bjorn And John - Young Folks

George Demure - My Baby's Gone

If I don't see you at my gig I'll see you next week for another selection of fine independent music.

Sorry about the missing week. As you can see from the post below I had a little trouble last week and then it was time to do AMPed again and I just didn't have the time to do my own show.

Good news is that the AMPed episode is finished and will be online this Monday. It sounds pretty good, although I'm only going to be playing one track off it on my own show.

It's also inching ever closer to my second gig so if you're in the Bath area on 10th October come along to The Porter Butt to see We*Take*Flight, Group 4 and Liken.

I think the wait for this episode was worth it. It's kind of a tribute to IODA and the Podsafe Music Network as they have provided me with some quality music that I was desperate to bring you. So we have some melodic singer/songwriter, some fun rock tracks, a couple of down tempo electronica numbers, a very odd cover and for some reason several tracks that have odd recording effects included.

Very nice selection of videos this week. Enjoy:

Windmill - Fit

The Hold Steady - Chips Ahoy

Dartz! - Once Twice Again

You Say Party! We Say Die! - Opportunity

The Artists Formerly Known As The Look - Broken Record

Angelique Kidjo feat. Joss Stone - Gimme Shelter

Next week will be the live gig preview show, with a new track by all three bands on the bill as well as some more quality podsafe music and of course the weird track of the week to close out the show. Trust me next weeks is REALLY weird.

Speak to you then.

I've just put up the photos that were taken at my first gig on 12th September on the myspace profile. I've tried putting them into a slideshow but that function doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

You may have noticed that the podcast has been delayed a little this week. I had a bit of an issue with LibSyn who accidentally cancelled my account this weekend just before I was about to put it online. It's all been sorted out now so the show should be out shortly.

Finally managed to put out the live podcast I've been promising you. Three tracks from each of the bands that played at my first ever promoted gig.

The Madisons managed to show up nearly 2 hours late after breaking down on the way, but it was well worth the wait and they played a fantastic, if slightly shorter, set.

The Haiku managed to bring a lot of fans with them so the atmosphere was greatly improved by their presence.

Slovakia didn't think they were home town heroes, but proved they should be, with a mesmerising set that included a very interesting choice of cover.

Over all it was a great night and I have to say I'm looking forward to the next one on the 10th of October.

The podcast after the gig before. It's finally in the books and and can now officially call myself a music promoter. You will be getting highlights of the show released as a podcast soon, which will have all the gory details.

Thanks are due to Danny, my foster brother, for agreeing to be my door man and photographer (he's also the one who did the e-mail promo for my podcast) and also to The Laughing Gnome for doing all the sound engineering and doing his best to keep me sane through what was a pretty stressful day.

And now normal service has been resumed. On this weeks show we have half male/half female singers, some emo, some quirky acoustic music and one of my favourite singles of the year so far.

Still not much on the video front, but here they are.

The Ghost Frequency - Nightmare

Sick Of Sarah - Mr. Incredible [Acoustic Performance]

Keep an eye out for the live podcast. I've just realised I'll have to do this whole thing again next month...

After 5 months of planning and many pot holes along the way, the week of my first gig is upon us. This Wednesday the 12th of September 'Ourobouros Podcast Presents...' will have it's first show. You get a sneak preview of the acts on the bill in this weeks podcast. The first three tracks played are by the three acts on the bill. I hope that anyone who's in the area comes down and has some fun with some great live music. You might also get one of the free mix CDs that I will be giving out at the gig.

Anyone who can't make it down will still have an opportunity to listen to highlights of the show. There will be an 'Ourobouros Live' podcast released some time next week.

Apart from the three live acts, on this weeks show we have some American rock, a track that was NME's single of the week and a very funny track from 4 ladies from Northampton.

Not much on the video front again this week:

The Kick Inside - To Be Someone  [Live Performance - Poor Quality]

Nick Black - Sorry

We Start Fires - Play You

Hope to see you on Wednesday!

Well we finally managed it. About 4 months after I first discussed doing a live podcast of the 5 Unsigned shows with their organiser, Rich Maya, the first episode is out.

I decided to keep in a lot of the introductions and audience interaction in the podcast. My philosophy is if you're doing a live podcast you may as well make it as close as possible to the experience of a live gig. It helps that Rich is a very funny MC. It also goes a little way towards expressing what a charmingly chaotic experience a 5 Unsigned show is.

I took two tracks from each artist that appeared on the show, which probably doesn't do them justice, but it makes the podcast a manageable length.

I also decided to do a new intro for the show to distinguish this show from my 'regular' podcast. The only track that made sense to use was one by Scarlatti Tilt, because they are the reason I first met Rich. Just after the band sent me an mp3 to play on my podcast I noticed that they were performing in Bath. It turned out that it was a solo set by Daisy, the bands singer, at a 5 Unsigned gig. By that time I had already decided to promote gigs and thought that Rich would be a good person to get some advice from. To my surprise he was very accomodating and we met up for coffee at Fopp (RIP). The rest is history. It seems appropriate that the circle is completed by Scarlatti Tilt being on the first 5 Unsigned podcast a week before my first promoted gig.

This is getting a little long, so I'll leave it there. Hope you enjoy the new facet of the Ourobouros Podcast experience and you'll get another one next month.

It's all about the extras this week. This episode is slightly later than usual because on Sunday night when I usually release the podcast I was at the 5 Unsigned gig here in Bath. It's a monthly acoustic showcase with, as you might expect, 5 acts performing. I've been talking to Rich who runs the gigs for months trying to get the shows recorded so I can put them out as a podcast. Well this month we actually managed it so the first 5 Unsigned podcast recorded live at the gig will be online by the end of the week.

Other bonuses coming your way include the gigs I am promoting obviously and an extra track on each show. Since I got my brothers to record some promos for me I'm spending a lot less time yapping on the podcast. The running time has been going down for the two weeks I've been doing it and since I like each show to be around the 35 minute mark as of next week you will be getting 8 tracks per show instead of the traditional 7.

On this weeks show (the quarter century!) we have some electro-indie decadence, a track I've had running in my mind for ages and some truly strange electronica from Brazil.

Very few videos this week, but the (We Are) Performance one is absolutely mental (In a good way)

(We Are) Performance - Live A Little

SuperSmiler - Guitarsy [Live Performance]

Dead World Leaders - Vultures [Live Performance - Poor Quality]

In order the next stuff up in Ourobouros Podcast land will be as follows:

1. 5 Unsigned Podcast

2. Episode #26 (With an extra track)

3. GIG!!!!!

4. Live Podcast with highlights from the gig

5. Episode #27 (Still with extra track)

I spoil you people, I really do...

All the tracks this week come from the excellent IODA service. We have some left-field legends, a welcome return from a band I've played previously and of course some weird shit to close out the show.

As well as the new music there's some new promos as well. I had my brothers record some links for me giving out my e-mail and website addresses. I think they came out rather well and now I don't have to say that stuff every week. I have plans to record another link so look out for that in the next few weeks.

Very slim pickings on the video front this week, but here they are.

Take Out The Trash - They Might Be Giants [Live Performance]

Von Iva - LALA [Live Performance]

Just listen to my brother and sign up to the mailing list through the box on the right. You wouldn't like him when he's angry...

With any luck you'll be getting a bonus soon. I know I've been promising this for a while, but it might actually be happening this time. My gigs are getting closer too...

As hoped I had a quieter time this week. I did manage to get to a gig at The Porter Butt last night for a bit of a scouting trip for my own gigs and had a good time. I also managed to make contact with two of the bands so hopefully you will be getting some stuff from them soon.

I have also managed to twist the arms of my friends and family to record some links for me. They should be in next weeks show.

In this weeks show we have half a show of AMPed related material, another lucky find from IODA (this is the third time they've managed to provide a track I really, really wanted to play) and two tracks received from the Noize Makes Enemies webzine. Go and have a look through the link in the right hand column.

Slim pickings on the video front this week

Two Loons For Tea - Sunset Room (Live Performance)

Carbon Leaf - Love Loss Hope Repeat (Live Performance)

You Say Party! We Say Die! - Monster

Echolounge - I Thought You Had It All (Live Performance)

As always you can e-mail me at ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com and any CDs etc. that anyone wishes to send me can be sent to 134 London Road West, Bath, BA1 7DD

See you next week with some new links.

Busy week this week. I had to record two podcasts as it was my turn to host the review podcast for the Association of Music Podcasting, which is called AMPed. It will be online this Monday and a couple of the tracks on it will be played on future episodes of this show. I had a great time doing it but it obviously meant I had twice the work to do from a normal week.

It was made more complicated by the fact I managed to lose my pop guard. For those of you who don't know that's the piece of mesh you put in front of a microphone to stop 'p' and 'c' sounds being incredibly loud. A bit of a concern when you have to say 'podcast' a lot. Anyway we've moved the desk from one side of the room to the other and in the move the pop guard got lost. I had to improvise by placing a bit of toilet paper in front of the mic.

The other complication was that I had to record the show in the daytime instead of my usual routine of recording it late at night. This meant that I had to deal with the two puppies we have in the house at the moment  being awake. I had to re-record a couple of the links after the puppies woke up and tried to kill each other.

Among all this I have started the serious preparation for the first gig I am promoting. Some of the handy work can be seen in this post. I've also finalised the playlist for the mix CD I shall be giving away.

Videos for this show:

Art Brut - Direct Hit

The Lovemakers - Whine & Dine

Jack In The Pulpit - 12:04

A Loss For Words - Half Step Down

Jack Bird - The King Of Blues (This is a live performance of two songs. First is 'Call For Love', which I played a few weeks ago. 'The King Of Blues' starts at 4:02.)

ddd - Wall To Wall

Correspondence through the interweb can be sent to ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com.

Should be a bit calmer this week and remember to have a look at AMPed on Monday.

Recorded this show after having a fine meal out with some friends. Tim and Anna were up from London (hence the bit at the beginning of the show) and Dan was up from Exeter. I haven't seen all of them in the same place for about a year so it was a fine night out. The fact that I was still slightly pissed might explain any slurring and stumbling in this weeks show. Anyway that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...

In this weeks show we have some Eastern European rock, some Canadian rock, some drum & bass and some blip pop. If you haven't got a clue what that last one means then don't worry you are not alone. Just listen to the show.

Bit thin on the video front this week, but here they are:

Farel Gott - Velvet S

Autokat - Dish Out

Harry Munk Project - Stalker

Best Fwends - Skate Or Live

Every time someone who lives within spitting distance of Bath doesn't sign up to the mailing list to find out about the gigs I am promoting a puppy dies. Just thought you should know you puppy murderer. The box is on the right.

See you next week when hopefully I should be more sober.

It's hard to believe that an adapter only 2 inches long can cause so many problems. That's what stopped working so I couldn't put out a new show last weekend as I was hoping. Having replaced it yesterday all is back as it should be and normal service has been resumed.

I'm incredibly excited that I was able to bring you the first track this week. I tried to get permission to play it a month ago after I saw Los Campesinos! play live, but didn't manage it. They then released it onto IODA so all podcasters can use it. I'm absolutely delighted. Also on the show we have some acoustic music, some dark electronica, some synth rock and some straight ahead rock.

I have been in contact with the venue I am promoting my gigs at this week and things are moving along nicely. The first gig I am promoting will be at The Porter Butt in Bath on September 12th with a line-up of The Madisons, Slovakia and The Haiku.

Nice selection of videos this week

Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing!

(We Are) Performance - Vandals (Live Performance)

Our Lunar Activities - It Comes In Waves

St. Christopher - It's All Gone (Live Performance)

Jack Bird - Call For Love (Live Performance) [Also contains a track called 'The King Of Blues', which I should be playing in a few weeks.]

Drifting In Silence - Chameleon (Drev Mix) [Warning: Contains flashing images.]

Any questions, comments, mp3s, proposals of marriage and suicide notes can be sent to ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com

See you next week for more quality independent music. I've got loads of tracks lined up for all you lucky listeners.

I did manage to get myself a new microphone, but it's such poor quality that it is not worth recording the show on. Since I pride myself on the clarity of the links I'm not going to release an episode that is not up to scratch just to release an episode. I will hopefully have sorted this all out by the weekend so I will next be releasing an episode on my usual Sunday/Monday schedule.

You might have noticed that this weeks episode is a bit late. I tried to record it last night but then discovered that my microphone has ceased to work. Until I get a new one I'm not going to be able to record the show. Normal service will be resumed shortly. Hopefully...

Brothers and sisters I have travelled far in the wilderness of the capital and have seen the light of the cyclists as they flash by! I did see The Devil walking the streets of that far city, but I resisted him and have returned to you brothers and sisters, to spread the word! To spread the word of independent music! Can I get an amen!!!

This is by way of saying I have not had a road to Damascus conversion, but while I was in London I did see The Devil. He is a German bloke called Didi Senft, who for years has followed The Tour de France wearing a devil costume. He also holds the record for the worlds largest working Bicycle. He's a complete nutter, but is a bit of a cycling icon. It pretty much made my weekend when I saw him walking towards Hyde Park.

With bizarre pseudo-celebrity sightings out of the way we move onto the music for this week, which I knicked from other podcasts. We have a double dose of Canadian rock, some unbelievably up-beat synth pop and two of the catchiest choruses you will ever hear.

Videos for this week:

Seagull Strange - La La La Ley here

The Ropes - Kill Her Off here

Anti-Hero - Unpretty here

Any questions, comments, mp3s, sentient computer viruses that will overtake the universe and MILF videos can be sent to ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com

I'm off to play my new Cycling computer game. See you next week.

In case anyone is desperate for a new episode I'm now confirming that there won't be a new episode this week. I'm just about to hop on a train to go up to London and watch the first two stages of the Tour de France and as I feared I didn't have time to produce a show this week. Hopefully the next show will be available either Sunday 15th July or Monday 16th July.

I don't usually get involved inthings like this and it's almost certainly futile, but this is something I feel strongly about.

As many of you are probably aware the Fopp chain of record stores went into administration this week. It seems to have been a combination of the collapse of the high street music business thanks to iTunes, Amazon et al and the decision by Fopp management to buy the Music Zone chain which had previously gone into administration. It looks like they just over extended themselves.

Speaking personally I always prefer to buy my music on CD rather than download and when I buy a CD I prefer to get it in the high street. Fopp is/was a great place to buy your music because it's so cheap and has a true independent spirit that is admirable. Speaking as someone who lives in Bath it is also the best place to watch live music in town.

Fopp has a very special place in my heart and any little thing that can be done to keep it open should be attempted.

I had to record this show twice. I am puppy sitting for my brother while he is on holiday, and recorded the show with a 3-month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier on my lap. He was asleep for the whole of the recording process before waking up and unplugging the computer before I'd had a chance to save the show. I nearly throttled the little bastard. Unfortunately he's just too damn cute and resolved myself to re-recording the whole show. So here it is, a day later than I was intending to put it out but I think it was worth the wait.

We have some synth-indie, some indie pop, some glam revival, some mellow trippy indie and I'm not quite sure how to classify my last track. All I know is it's fantastic.

On the gig promotion front I had a bad week. I had yet another band pull out from the gig I was planning in August, which left me with little option but to cancel the whole show. This means that the first gig I will be promoting will be on 12th September at The Porter Butt in Bath. The line-up is confirmed as The Haiku, Slovakia and The Madisons. For each of my gigs I will be handing out free mix CDs to the first 25 people throught the door. If you want to get more details about the live music promotion then sign up to my mailing list using the box to the right.

Nice selection of videos this week.

Low vs. Diamond - Heart Attack here

Krief - La Verite Live Session

Amida - Class Of 2000 here

The XCorvettes - An Alcoholic State Of Mind here

The Cordels - The Jowna Live Performance

Sound Sanctuary - Broken Signs here

Any questions, comments, mp3s, answers to the deepest philosophical quandries we face and offers of little blue pills can be sent to ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com And you can sign up to the mailing list there too.

I don't think there'll be a show next week as I'm spending the weekend in London watching the Tour de France and I probably wont have time to put out a podcast. So see you in a fortnight.

Lots of connections to previous podcasts in this one. Hope I didn't lose any new listeners I might have. I think your only option is to listen from Episode #11 onwards... Go on you know you want to.

Interesting mix of styles in this show. We have some classic mainstream punk, some acoustic rock, some ambient indie and some more bizarre electronica. Throw everything at them, that's what I say!

Nearly a full video playlist for this one. I particularly recommend The Young Punx! video. Very odd and very cool.

The Haiku - Taking Control [No video for this track, but did I mention I was in the bands video for this track?]

Alkaline Trio - Private Eye here

Treehouse Burning - The Escape here (This is a homemade fan video made using footage from the Final Fantasy series of video games.)

CountrySide - Estuary Live Performance

The Young Punx! - You've Got To... (Norman Cook Mix) here (This is a different version from the video I posted for this track on Episode #15)

Daisy Daisy - Michelle Plays Ping Pong here

Please sign up to my mailing list. You can use the box to the right. My first gig is inching ever closer. I'm all excited!!!!!!!!!! Are You?

A few weeks ago on the show I mentioned that I was in a video for The Haiku. They're a lovely couple of guys and they will be appearing at the gig I am promoting in September.

They've now released the video onto YouTube so everyone can have a look at it. It's a really cool video for a really cool song. You can see the video here

I've also embedded the video onto my myspace profile. I'm the one with a big number 54 on my shirt.

Nice mix of tracks this week and a new intro in honour of the fact I'm now a member of AMP. Since I was going to have to add the AMP bumper I also redid the sample from The Sunshine Underground track I use as theme music.

We have some good old fashioned rock, some soulful singer-songwriters and some frankly quite barmy electronica this week. The last track has to be heard to be believed.

Only a few videos this week, but they're all very cool.

Harrisons - Dear Constable here

Elizabeth - War Is Beautiful here

The Fuzz Machine - Love Her Madly  Nothing for this version, but here is a link to The Doors original version

Albert Aguilar - Movie Star [Nothing on YouTube, but there is a link on his myspace profile for a video to this track.]

E-mail me with questions, comments, unconditional love, vitriolic abuse or anything else that's on your mind at ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com and please also sign up to the mailing list, where you can get extra information on the tracks played in this episode, details of the forthcoming gigs I'm planning in Bath and a sneak preview of next weeks show.

There is some exciting stuff in the pipeline for my Bath listeners. And I don't just mean the gigs. More news as it comes in.

On the subject of the gigs, it is starting to look questionable whether the August show will be going ahead as planned. Panic not my live music fans. The September gig is all locked up and will definitely be going ahead. I will be posting as soon as I get confirmation one way or the other, but if you really want the inside track on all the live music information then sign up to my mailing list using the box on the right.

Got sent a promo CD this week by Santa Dog. It's a great album and a review of it will soon be on the Noize Makes Enemies Webzine. Again, follow the link on the right.

After a slow week for videos last episode we've got a great selection this week. The Young Punx! video in particular is superb

Santa Dog - Big Bang here

The Answering Machine - Silent Hotels here

Mirno - The Light Of The Bar here

GK & The Renegades - Girls From Birkenhead here

The Young Punx! - You've Got To... here

And if you've got any questions, comments or tips for good indie music then e-mail me at ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com

See you next week.

Busy week for me.

You may remember on Episode 11 I played a track by local band The Haiku and last weekend I went over to Trowbridge to appear in the video for the track I played 'The News Is: The World Sucks'. I'll put it up on my myspace page as soon as it's online. I also confirmed with them that they are playing at my gig on the 12th September at The Porter Butt here in Bath.

Speaking of the gigs I am planning, I've had a lot of confirmations from bands this week. Sign up to the mailing list to get all the latest info.

This weekend I went to two gigs. On Saturday I saw Los Campesinos! who I played on Episode 6, more details about that on the next podcast. Then on Sunday I went to the monthly 5 Unsigned acoustic night. I am going to be collaborating with Rich who runs the night to put out a podcast of the live performances from 5 Unsigned. It looks like it won't be starting this month, but expect a monthly bonus podcast from July.

Only one video this week, but it's a good one

The Vincent Black Shadow - Metro here

I was in a bit of a rush this week so I forgot to put on the ident at the end of the show. I hope you won't be too devastated...

Exciting things in the pipeline.

The dates for my first three gigs have been finalised. They will be at The Porter Butt in Bath and will be on August 8th, September 12th and October 10th. The line ups haven't been fully finalised, but they are inching ever closer. I hope to continue putting on shows on the second Wednesday of every month. Keep checking back for updates, or even better sign up to my mailing list at the box on the right.

You will hopefully be getting some extra material on my podcast feed soon. I have an agreement in principal with 5 Unsigned, who put on monthly acoustic shows in Bath, to put highlights of the concerts on this feed. You will hopefully be getting the first of these bonus podcasts within the next few weeks. Having said that this is still in the planning stages so don't hold your breathe.

And now for the videos

Brandon Schott - Simple Life here

Mixel Pixel - You're The Kind Of Girl here

Soular - So, This Is The Way It Feels here

Gallows - Abandon Ship here

I have set up a mailing list for my podcast.

This will mainly be used to promote the gigs I will be putting on here in Bath, but I intend to send out mailers regarding my podcast as well.

Speaking of the gigs, they are getting very close to being finalised. I am going to be putting on one a month and the first one should be on August 8th. Once I have everything sorted out I shall be broadcasting it on the podcast and posting a blog here and on the myspace profile.

If you would like to receive occasional e-mails from me please sign up to the mailing list using the box to the right.

Another great episode with stuff gleaned from The Association of Music Podcasters and The Road to V competition.

If you like listening to my show your bound to find more podcasts that you like at the AMP homepage or if you just want a flavour of the shows available then subscribe to the AMPed podcast, which is a highlight show for AMP.

There is some very exciting stuff in the pipeline. As well as the live gigs I have been planning, there's some other stuff on the way as well. I don't want to give too much away until I have more details. Suffice it to say you could soon be getting some bonus content when you subscribe to this feed.

Not too many videos this week, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. The Some Velvet Morning video in particular is brilliant.

Some Velvet Morning - Settle Down here

Emma McGlynn & The Monorails - Hey You here

Johnny Foreigner - Sofacore Live Performance [Poor Quality]

It's a local music special this week with all the bands coming from Bristol, Somerset or Wiltshire.

In related news I will be promoting gigs here in Bath for the bands I play on the show. I am in the early stages of arranging two shows. An electronica bill featuring Parry:Matthews, Jetstream Lovers & iamchemist and a guitar bill featuring The Madisons, Liken & The Haiku. These will probably be taking place in mid-August. I will be posting further details when they become available.

Some fairly small scale bands this week so only one video, but I did find a couple of videos for tracks I mentioned in passing.

Scarlatti Tilt - The Insect's Party Live Clip

Alkaline Trio - Private Eye here [Great song about stalking]

Police - Every Breath You Take here [The classic song about stalking]

As always you can e-mail me at ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com and keep checking back for further details about the gigs I will be promoting.

Sorry the audio's a bit dodgy this week. I had to replace my computer this weekend and I'm still working out the kinks in the settings for recording the show. Also if you hear some yelping in the background nobody was hurt in the making of this podcast. I was recording the show in the same room as my brother's 7 week old puppy.

I am going to be promoting some gigs in Bath some time in August. More details next week as it's going to be a local music special and a lot of the bands I shall be promoting are on the show.

The videos for this week:

Amy Millan - Skinny Boy here

The Dears - Ticket To Immortality here [Also have a look at their video for 22: The Death Of All The Romance here]

Seven Story Down - Jessica here [This is a photo-montage from a live performance with the track playing as the music]

Tearwave - Lotus Flower here

See you next week when I should have more details about the gigs I will be promoting.

Little bit of everything this week. Hope I don't sound too dead as I'm a bit ill this week.

I have written a review of Ben Westbeech's album for Noize Makes Enemies. Go and have a read at the link to the right.

As mentioned in the show a good friend of mine recently had his first book published. If anyone has an academic interest in the Second World War go and have a look at British Propaganda to France 1940-44: Machinery, Method & Message. I bet that's the first plug ever for a history book on an alternative music podcast

And so on with the videos

Ben Westbeech - So Good Today here [Complete with lovely views of the UEL campus]

Shakes - Disneyland (Pt. 1) here

Elliot Minor - Parallel Worlds here [There is also an extensive video diary on YouTube following the recording of their album]

Leiana - 2B Unkind [Nothing On YouTube for this track, although there is a live performance video on Myspace]

Headland - Love Hate here

The e-mail address is ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com

See you next week, when hopefully I should be a bit brighter.

Excited about a small spruce up I did of the home page this week and a special show featuring new tracks by bands I have played previously.

If you're curious, the previous shows featuring these bands are:

1 - Anemo

2 - Far From The Dance, Gompa, Rieser

3 - Infidelity

4 - Of The I

5 - Maddicott Mountain

Also very excited because the nice boys from Rieser are sending me a demo CD of their brand new album, The Well Dressed Thief. It's available as a download from their website (link in the show notes below), but is not yet available as a CD.

As soon as it gets here I will be writing a review of it for the Noize Makes Enemies webzine (link to the right). I have also written a review of the Gompa CD, which should be on the site soon.

Please go and have a look at it because I think It's one of the best review blogs out there. (And I'm not just saying that because I write for it)

Only two videos this week

Rieser - Secrets Promo Video [Doesn't feature the track Secrets, but is a good introduction to the band]

Gompa - Jack Knife Live Performance [Features 'Jack Knife' and another track called 'Tranquil Mind']

You can e-mail me at ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com

See you next week.

Probably the most diverse range of styles I've managed to put together so far.

I have written a review of the album 'Appreciation Night' by Bound Stems for the Noize Makes Enemies blog. There is a link to the site on the right. As well as a couple of reviews that I wrote there is a wealth of reviews, videos and streaming music. It's well worth a look.

If you like the last track I played on this show from Maddicott Mountain check out their second myspace page The Blood Choir.

The videos for this show

The Apples In Stereo - Energy here [There is also a 5 part documentary on YouTube showing the making of the album this track comes from.]

Planetakis - Pogo In the Shoes Of Kylie Minogue here

Fear Of Flying - Three's A Crowd here

You can e-mail ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com or check me out on Myspace

I'm off on holiday now so there won't be a show next week. See you in a fortnight.

A review I wrote for 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' by Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip is now online on the Noize Makes Enemies Webzine

Apart from my own small contribution there is a wealth of reviews, videos and streaming music that is well worth a look.

I might be doing more reviews for them in the future so keep checking back.

Special show this week for two reasons.

I've had an equipment upgrade so the links should be clearer from now on. I've also got myself a domain name so you can now go to ourobouros.co.uk to find this page.

The other reason it's a special show is that the first four tracks are by bands who got in touch with me rather than the other way round.

I've also set up a YouTube channel where all the videos I have linked to will be stored. The link is to the right.

Not many video links this week, but here are the ones that are available

Bat For Lashes - Prescilla here

Love Minus Zero - Psychobaby Live Performance Clip (Poor Quality) [There is a full promo video for this track on their myspace page]

The Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet here (Mentioned on the podcast)

Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill here (Bonus Link)

You can e-mail ourobouros.podcast@googlemail.com or check me out on Myspace

See You soon.

When I was listening to the latest episode of the Take Your Medicine podcast I came across a track I absolutely love. It is called 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' by Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip.

I usually abhor hip-hop and rap (Especially done by White, English guys) but the content of this track is superb. It is basically a list of commandments that people in the UK in 2007 should live by. Everything from 'Thou shalt not think that any man over the age of 30 who plays with a child that is not his own is a paedophile. Some people are just nice' to 'Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry'

In the weeks since I first heard it I have been desperately trying to find a download of it to put on the show. Unfortunately all the downloads have been taken down in preparation for a single release coming in April from Lex Records. That's fair enough.

Since I think this track is pure lyrical genius I have come to the conclusion that I have to get it heard by as many of my listeners as possible. The best way to do this as things stand is to put up links so you can listen to the track via streaming.

The video for this track was just put up yesterday on YouTube. It's Awesome.

After the single comes out I will do my best to get it on the podcast, until then follow the links.

Bit of a Greek flavour to this episode. Listen to this show and you can expect some unusual stuff occasionally.

I had a bit of difficulty with the mp3 conversion for this episode so the ident at the end got messed with. I figured 4 seconds at the end of the show doesn't matter that much, but apologies anyway.

Here are the video links

Little Man Tate - Sexy In Latin here

Love Is All - Make Out, Fall Out, Make Up here

Infidelity - Breathe Live Performance Clip

The Dykeenies - Waiting For Go here

A nicer mix of styles in this episode I think. We have something for the electronica and acoustic fans as well as the rock fans.

Sorry If anyone got Episode 1 again. Some of the directories I signed up to were having trouble because the file size of the mp3 didn't match up with what was listed.

Just a small technical hitch from a first time podcaster...

The good news is that Episode 2 is coming along nicely and should be up earlier than I anticipated. I predict it will be up by Sunday night (GMT).

Episode 1 was a bit of a Rock overload, but Episode 2 will have a more diverse mix of styles. I'm more or less at the mercy of the bands who give me approval to play their stuff...

While I was seeking approval for music to play on my next show I came across a story regarding some reprehensible behaviour. Let me give you the details.

There is a website called Micromusic.net that has a vast catalogue of music that is free to download. It is basically a community page for a sub-genre of dance music that uses old computer systems like Ataris and Gameboys to create dance music.

Then two Norwegian girls going by the ridiculous name of Fitts For Fight (or possibly their Svengali producer) download loads of these free tracks, record asinine lyrics over them and release them as their own material!

They even have a video for one of 'their' tracks called 'Fuck Off & Die' listed on YouTube. This is really a track called 'STereoid' by Drop Da Bomb. The chorus to this 'Song' goes:

'You come to a show, say hello, we say goodbye, fuck off and die'

that doggerel is not only offensive in content, but also in quality.

You can get more on this story at the micromusic page HERE.

If you follow that link you can find an online petition that micromusic has put up in protest at this travesty. I strongly recommend that everyone who reads this goes and signs it.

Even if you don't like the original music, and I admit it will not be to everyones taste, nobody should have their music stolen.

I intend to play STereoid on my next episode to show how it really should sound.

Since I figured the whole point of podcasting was getting the music out there. I left the first post as just a bare bones track listing.

For those of you interested in me, my name is Colin, I live in Bath in England and I love Indie music.

The podcast is now up and has a couple of unsigned bands mixed in with some indie acts. I hope you enjoy it.

I will be posting links to YouTube for any videos available for the tracks I play in a seperate post like this one. So here they are:

The Impulse - Get Ready To Go here

Dirt Bike Annie - Battlelines here

Battle - Demons Official Version Unused Version

Anemo - Johnny 5 here

The Sunshine Underground - Put You In Your Place 7" Release

Album Re-Release
