Sat, 25 July 2009 I still haven't sorted out the glitching in the audio. It's starting to annoy me, as I'm sure it's annoying you. At least when you can hear my links they sound better now. I am really impressed with Florence + The Machine. It's a rare case in recent years that who I want to win the Mercury Music Prize is probably actually going to win it. If you haven't come across her wonderfully dark and elegant music yet then check out the video for her last single. Florence + The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) Here's The Onion's Star Trek video that I talked about in the show. Substitute Dr. Who for Star Trek and it's almost how I feel. I recommend everybody watch First Things First TV, the topical news web series hosted by the lovely and talented Heather Stewart. On top of this excellent show she's also a singer who has given me permission to play one of her tracks on a future episode. Pretty good video selection this week and almost a full representation. It's no surprise that the videos are good this week, as two of this week's tracks I found on the blog of $99 Music Videos. Bang Bang Eche - 4 To The Floor Before Dawn - Drowning Mellowdrone - Elephant [Live Performance] El Dog - A Princess, A Monkey, The Stars And The Sea [Live Performance] Home Video - I Can Make You Feel It The A-B Theory - Fatal Flaw Attractions [Live Performance] On WMVP this week the second in my series of performance videos. If you like the sound of Swedes being dressed in a car park then chack it out on Wednesday. See you next week for lots more music and probably less cycling. Sat, 18 July 2009 With so much else to talk about I forgot to update you on my employment status. As of yet I have not heard from SFX Magazine. It's been 10 days since the job closed and I'm taking it as a good sign that I have not been rejected yet. Fingers crossed. To clarify my thoughts about the Tour de France. You expect the first week to be flat, sprinters stages that don't actually affect the final result of the race. By the second week you expect a contenders group to have formed at the top of the rankings and for them to attack each other and try to gain time. In this years race the contenders group is at the top of the rankings, but they are just not trying to gain time on each other. I fear that the organizers were trying to make the final week interesting and hard, and in doing so they've made it TOO hard. Everybody is planning on one huge attack on Mont Ventoux and not doing anything until then. Really slim selection of videos this week. Deastro - Parallelogram [Live Performance] Starfucker - Medicine On WMVP this Wednesday we have the start of a 3 week run of videos with a common theme. Really simple, really effective. See you next week for another great selection of music, cycling news and general weirdness. Category: Video Links -- posted at: 1:12 PM Comments[0] |

Sat, 11 July 2009 I experimented this week with a new post-production filter. Let me know if there's any noticeable difference. I'm still getting glitches in the audio though. I really thought I'd solved it and I'm not sure what else to do. Oh Well. Following up on a story from last week. The Nashville police have announced that 36 year old Steve McNair was shot to death by his 20 year old girlfriend who then shot herself. McNair was married at the time of his death. It's a real shame that a man who pioneered black quarterbacks in the NFL and was part of the most memorable drive in Superbowl history will forever be tainted by his personal life. An outstanding selection of videos this week. You can expect to see most of these in future episodes of Weekly Music Video Podcast. The Lowry video was one of the ones made by the excellent $99 Music Videos podcast. You can also check out the excellent 'Making Of'. Beoptamystic - Maria Saint Motel - Dear Dictator Lowry - Whiskey Takka Takka - Silence Mint - Tricycle Days On WMVP this week there's an excellent animated video that takes it's inspiration from Michel Gondry, or if it doesn't it independently came up with the same brilliant concept that Gondry has. Off now to watch the Tour de France. See you next week for more great music. Category: Video Links -- posted at: 9:44 AM Comments[1] |

Mon, 6 July 2009 It's been a really hard recording process this week, so this video link blog is really late. Sorry if anyone was waiting for it. In a way it was cool that I had to delay recording and release of this show because I can comment on the first two stages of the Tour de France. Since Fabian Cancellara is the best Time-Trialist in the world and Mark Cavendish is the best sprinter, it is hardly surprising that they won the first two stages. I'm writing this before the finish of stage three, but I fully expect Cavendish to win again. I really can't wait until Mont Ventoux on the penultimate stage. Completely shocked by the death of Steve McNair. At this early stage it looks like he was shot by his girlfriend who then shot herself. Of course this story could well change as more details emerge. In many ways McNair was a pioneer of race relations in the NFL. While there had been successful black quarterbacks before McNair, after he arrived on the scene it was no longer an issue if a quarterback was black. He will be sadly missed. Only one 'proper' video this week, but it's a really nice piece of work that fits the song perfectly. Sierra Alpha - Superhero XOXO - The Dissociative Fugue [Live Performance] Stillman - Runt Of The Litter [Live, Acoustic Performance] On WMVP this Wednesday a simple video shot really well that has a surprisingly dark tone. I really hope that next week I'll be less angry and therefore it will be a shorter show. This one was my longest ever episode. Oh dear... Category: Video Links -- posted at: 8:48 AM Comments[1] |
